About Me The Doll Maker

About Me The Doll Maker

Me, Raggedy Daisy & BunnyHello everyone! Recognize the bunny in this photo?? She was my inspiration for the graphic I designed for this web site.

Thanks for taking a minute to come get acquainted with me. As you already can tell, I am a doll maker. I design my own dolls and patterns. All my dolls are one of a kind original dolls. Some may be similar in appearance if I use the same pattern to make several but no two are exactly alike. I love to design primitive and country dolls as well as all types of other dolls such as santa's, snowmen, scarecrows and other seasonal types of dolls. I am also going to be posting some whimsical type dolls that I have designed. There is so much I want to do but so little time. Just keep checking back with me.

I have been making dolls since I was in my early twenties. My mother did me a HUGE favor when one day she said to me "You can sew, go make one for yourself!". *L* Well, you know what that meant. That meant that she was always making something really cool that I wanted and she finally got tired of sending home all her special goodies with me and basically told me to do it myself. *L* So, that's what I did. I bought my very first doll pattern at JoAnn Fabrics and made my first black doll. It was quite a few years before I started designing my own patterns for my dolls. There are times when I will make a doll from another designers pattern because after all, we are all different and I love the styles of so many other artist out there.

My mother helped me learn to sew when I was very young. Many times she gave me some instruction as to what to do and many times I did things on my own. I am always very eager to try to do it myself before asking for help. That isn't always a good thing though. *L* My mother has a very creative mind and has shown me so many times how something you think just can't work WILL work and goes so well together once you just do it. Now, when I'm looking for fabrics to go together for a small quilt or tote bag or whatever it is I am making I am much more open to trying things I would never have tried if it were not for her spirited creative attitude.

One day we were shopping together in a quilt shop and I was looking for one more fabric to go with others I had picked out for a tote bag. She kept telling me to try the Batiks. I kept saying that wasn't what I was looking for. I tried a million other fabrics and each one would either be YUCK or "ok". Finally I went to the Batiks and found one that was so pretty and had the colors I was looking for. It was PERFECT. We both said YES. So, as I said above, she taught me to try anything and she was right! Sometimes it just takes me a while to remember that! *L*

I hope you enjoyed your visit and found something that warmed your heart or made you smile before you go. Come and visit anytime.

Best wishes,
